Your data
You do not have to provide me with any personal data to use this service. I do not store your personal data with the exceptions detailed immediately below.
Your email address
You do not have to provide me with your email address.
If you decide to provide me with your email address for a one-time alert, it wil be encrypted and stored temporarily on my servers. It will remain on my servers until I have completed your recommendation. Once I have completed your recommendation, I will decrypt your email address, send you your alert email, then delete your email address from my server. Please bear in mind that this means I will not be able to send you follow-up emails and you will not be able to search for your recommendation using your email address.
Your IP Address
An IP address is a number that identifies the device you are using on your network. I temporarily store the IP address of users who have made submissions. This is, unfortunately, one of the things I have to do to protect this website from malicious attacks. I delete every ip address once I am satisfied that it is not linked to any malicious activity, usually within a few days of a user making a submission. I encrypt all IP addresses before storing. I never share the IP addresses I have stored with any other company, individual or entity.
Your recommendation
Your recommendation, while personal to you, will be available for anyone to browse on the website. Becasue of this, I do not include anything that is specifically personal to you other than the usage needs you have specified to me. For example, if you were to accidentally (or on purpose) send me your name, your place of work, a postcode, telephone number or any other way of identifying you personally, I would do my best to catch this and remove any traces of it from your recommendation.
Your recommendation is available for others to browse on the website. This is so that other people who have similar needs to you can browse your recommendation (and others) to find what they need more quickly than having to wait for my response.
Content from other websites
Recommendations on this website may include links provided by other websites and embedded images. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. I do not control or have any responsibility for the content or behaviour of other websites; a link to, for example, Amazon, would operate in exactly the same way as if you had visited that website directly. Because of this, I am careful and selective with any sources of embedded content or shops to which I link.
Who I share your data with
I do not store your data (with the temporarily-stored exceptions specifically detailed above), including but not limited to browsing habits or other personally identifiable data (such as browser, screen resolution, window size etc., all of which could easily be stored to build up a digital fingerprint of you without your knowledge). As a result, I do not pass on this kind of data to anyone as I have no data to share. I do not sell your data on.
Your email address (should you submit a request and optionally choose to provide me with it) will be dealt with in the manner detailed above. It will not be shared with anyone else and will not be kept in my database once the single alert email has been sent.
Your IP address will not be stored for any longer than is completely necessary and will be deleted as soon as it is possible for me to do so. This is a lot better than most other websites promise.
Any email or IP address stored will be encrypted using industry-standard encryption. No other personally identifiable information will be stored.

Some of the links on this website are “affiliate links”. This means that if you click on them and go on to buy something, I may receive a small payment from the linked website as a thank you for introducing them to you. Becasue of this, the company linked to will track your browsing after you have clicked through to them. As mentioned earlier, I do not control of have responsibility for the content or behaviour of other websites. However, I am selective with the companies I use for this purpose.
I will never make recommendations based on whether or not I am using an affiliate link. If I think my best recommendation is for a website from which I do not have an affiliate link, I will link to that website as my best recommendation regardless.
Other privacy policies
You should now go ahead and read the privacy policies of other websites you use regularly. You may well be surprised by how much information they are able to get from and about you even without you explicitly giving it to them.
