You asked for a Laptop costing under £500.

You told me that you needed a performance gaming laptop for playing the latest demanding AAA games. You also added the following additional information: Hi James, We are ready to buy!Any new deals? Looking to play SIMS4/Roblox and general school work for my daughter. Advice greatly received x

The laptops I chose below will all play The Sims 4 no problem. I’ve included some videos in each one so you can see how it will run on each system.
Put simply:
Choice 1 is a great all rounder. It’s not a specialist gaming laptop but it will be great for school work and laptop use for years to come. 14 inch screen.
Choice 2 is like a stripped back version of choice 1. It has lower performance, lower price but a bigger screen (15.6 inches).
Choise 3 is a proper gaming machine. It has double the storage of the other two but must importantly, it has a GTX 1650 graphics processor – the other two don’t have a dedicated graphics processor. If you’re really keen on gaming, this will be the strongest gaming machine but it is more expensive than the others and I don’t think the battery life will be as good.

Have a look at the videos to get an idea of what playing The Sims 4 on each one will be like. If you look at the “Average FPS” number on each video, anything above 30 FPS if very playable and over 60FPS will be an excellent gaming experience.

I do not work for or on behalf of any of the retailers listed below.

Why did I choose these for you?

It is important that you understand what the components of a laptop do so that you can make an informed choice. Here is my very basic explanation for each:

  • CPU: The brain of your laptop. A better one makes your laptop faster.
  • RAM: Your laptop’s short term memory – more of this means it can cope well with doing more things at once.
  • Storage: How much space your laptop has to store files, photos, apps etc. More storage means you can store more stuff.
  • Graphics: Your laptop has a graphics processor (GPU) responsible for how things appear on the screen. A better GPU will mean your device will cope better with more complicated graphics, such as in 3D games.
